Angie's Summer Health Moment

The summer comes and we all go into a panic, because we've got a little belly, too much on the hips, the arms don't look right for summer clothes... We roll our eyes and wonder, why does this happen to us every summer?! Now it's my turn to roll my eyes because everything has been tried, and it's not about waiting until a few weeks before summer; it's about consistency during the year.

So I have a little tip that was told to me about 40 years ago by Barry Manilow, because he'd just read 'Fit for Life' by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond (a book which has since been repeated a million times by a million people, because it works).

It involves intermittent fasting, but in a much healthier way. Let me explain...

Our bodies have three cycles in a day:

  1. The appropriation cycle. This works from approximately noon to 8pm, when we are most awake, most active, and most efficient at digesting lunch, dinner and snacks.

  2. The assimilation cycle, which is 8pm to 4am, when you are most likely relaxing or sleeping and your body is absorbing all the nutrients from your food and delivering them to your organs, bones and cells via your blood stream.

  3. The elimination cycle, from 4am to noon. This is when your body is cleansing and releasing toxins from the foods and liquids of the day. That's why we wake up needing to pee and have morning breath. It's very important that when you break your fast (have breakfast), that you only have fruit or green juice that requires the least energy for digestion. We don't want to disturb the elimination cycle as it's the most important one for your weight loss and health.

How this works is you eat for 8 hours during the appropriation cycle, and fast for 16. These hours can be adjusted to fit your schedule. For instance, if you wake up at 5am, you might start your eating window at 10am and finish by 6pm.

To break your fast, have a room-temperature glass of water with the juice of a lemon. While preparing this, dissolve a pinch of organic Celtic sea salt on your tongue to provide essential minerals for hydration. Some dentists recommend following the lemon water with plain water to dilute the acids from the lemon.

Until noon, eat only high-antioxidant fruits like melons, grapes, berries, and mangoes. Avoid apples and bananas due to their high sugar content. Choosing fruit instead of bread, a full English breakfast, cereal, or eggs is crucial for weight loss. At noon, have your largest meal of the day. If you need to snack, opt for natural foods — nothing packaged.

Think smart, be sensible, and if you want a two-week sugar-free diet plan, send £10 via Paypal (bestbodys@aol.com) along with your email, and I will send it to you.

Yours in health,

Angie
